Indigenous-Led Funds: Financing Self-Determined Climate Solutions

Last year, together with Indigenous-led funds from different regions of the world, we joined our voices and experiences to develop the report “Indigenous-Led Funds: Financing Self-Determined Climate Solutions.” This collective effort highlights the fundamental role of financing mechanisms created and governed by Indigenous Peoples.

This report underscores an urgent truth: Indigenous Peoples are proven stewards of the planet’s ecosystems, protecting forests, wetlands, and other vital territories that sustain global climate balance and biodiversity. Despite this, Indigenous Peoples receive less than 1% of global climate funding, limiting the ability of our communities to strengthen and scale their own solutions.

Through this document, we share what Indigenous-Led Funds are, their guiding principles, the processes they support, and the challenges they face. The report also presents a call to action toward COP30, emphasizing the need to ensure direct, flexible, and sustained funding that respects Indigenous self-determination and strengthens climate solutions built from the territories.

This report reflects the strength of a growing global movement that is transforming the way resources are channeled, ensuring they reach those who safeguard Mother Earth.
