At the Fondo Territorial Mesoamericano (FTM), we are dedicated to facilitating and promoting direct territorial investment in favor of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (PICLs) in Mesoamerica. This commitment is reflected in our culturally adapted support to beneficiary organizations through capacity building and strengthening, promoting sustainability and long-term positive impacts.
In this context, we have organized the first training workshop for the recipient organizations of the 2023-2024 sub grants, which will be held in Panama City from June 17 to 21, 2024.
Workshop Objective
The workshop aims to strengthen the capabilities of the personnel responsible for the technical and financial-administrative execution of the 16 projects funded by the FTM in the 2023-2024 call. This effort seeks to ensure the efficiency and success of the initiatives, contributing to sustainable development in the Mesoamerican region.
Main Topics
- Project Identification and Design: Theoretical concepts, tools, and practical exercises will be addressed for the participatory identification of projects, the development of the theory of change, and the preparation of the basic script of a project.
- Administrative and Accounting Management: Guidance will be provided on the administration and accounting of projects, including acquisition processes, record keeping, and backup documentation.
The projects we fund cover various areas, including reforestation, governance, agriculture, youth entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, and support for artisans. These initiatives represent a joint effort to promote sustainability and community development in Mesoamerica. Therefore, the event is aimed at the staff of the 16 organizations responsible for the technical and administrative execution of the funded projects. Two representatives per organization are expected to participate: one from the technical area and the other from the financial-administrative area.
Maria Pia Hernandez, Manager of FTM, emphasizes: “The commitment of FTM is to create and strengthen capacities in organizations receiving donations, with the aim of leaving installed capacities and promoting sustainability processes beyond the life of the project. This is our response to consolidate capacities in project management and implementation.”
This workshop is a crucial step in our mission to support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in the sustainable management of their natural resources and territories. Through this training, FTM seeks to strengthen the capabilities of participating organizations, promoting sustainable development and environmental governance in the Mesoamerican region.
